highlights:
  • created as national park in 1962, managed by madagascar national parks since 1997.
  • wide 81,540 ha, the national park of isalo is constituted of the spectacular landscape of the ”massif ruiniforme”, marine and continental sandstone rocks, which appeared during different period of marine regressions and transgressions during the jurassic era.
  • the massif presents a relief between 514m and 1’268m high with deep canyons long over several kilometers and deep of few dozen meters into which flow sometimes permanent rivers.
  • dry tropical climate. minimum temperature 5°c and maximum is 35°c. mean temperature is 17°c in june and 25°c in february.
  • specific riparian vegetation, rich with succulents and palms. fauna is varied with bird, mammals and amphibian groups.
  • best for trekking or hiking, bird watching, canyoning.
  • accommodation: hotels or camping.
